The movie follows main character Lizzie (played by Hilary Duff) as she is promoted from junior high school and goes on a class trip to Rome.
The movie opened with little positive feedback from critics, but reached number two in the United States box office on release in early May 2003. Filming was finished by late 2002 with reshoots taking place early 2003.
